Mindfulness-Based Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Bellevue, WA

Mindfulness-Based IOP for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment

At Eastside Center for Healing, we offer a modern, therapeutic alternative to traditional rehab models. Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) provides structured, evidence-informed care for individuals navigating challenges with anxiety, depression, PTS, substance use, or other addictions. Rooted in mindfulness, neuroscience, and Buddhist psychology, our approach respects the complexity of addiction and the individuality of recovery.

If you’re reading this, you may be facing a turning point, whether it’s for yourself, a partner, or a family member. You're not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

We See Substance Use Through a Compassionate, Practical Lens

We understand that substance use often starts as an attempt to cope with stress, anxiety, emotional pain, past trauma, or unmet needs. Over time, what once helped can become a source of disconnection, shame, and isolation. Our work is not about labels or life sentences, it’s about learning, choice, and change.

In our IOP, we look beyond behaviors to examine patterns, survival strategies, and the deeper needs driving substance use. Together, we explore:

  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

  • Emotional regulation and attachment

  • Shame, guilt, and avoidance

  • Personality and learning styles

  • Spiritual disconnection and existential stress

What Makes Our Program Different?

  • Mindfulness-Based Therapy: Clients learn to observe their thoughts, cravings, and emotional states without reacting impulsively, building real-world resilience.

  • Buddhist-Informed Psychology: We integrate principles such as non-attachment, compassion, and self-inquiry to support deeper healing.

  • No 12-Step Requirement: We support your freedom to explore the path that fits, including Buddhist Recovery, SMART Recovery, Refuge Recovery, Women for Sobriety, and more.

  • Whole-Person Assessment: We begin with a thoughtful intake process, where your goals, values, and lived experience shape the treatment plan, not a formula or diagnosis alone.

  • Evidence-Based Practices: We use current neuroscience, trauma-informed care, and best practices in addiction treatment, without relying on shame-based tactics or rigid programming.

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our IOP runs over 60 days, offering a balance of structure and flexibility. You’ll attend therapy sessions multiple times per week, participate in group work, and begin building a personalized, sustainable plan for recovery.

We understand that many people begin treatment uncertain about whether they even “have a problem.” That’s okay. This isn’t a commitment to a label, it’s a curious investigation into what’s working in your life, and what’s not.

Our Intensive Outpatient Process: Mindfulness-Based, Skill-Building, and Trauma-Aware

Our IOP blends mindfulness, evidence-based therapy, and practical skill development to support sustainable, long-term recovery.

🧘 Mindfulness and Meditation as Core Practices

We teach mindfulness not as a buzzword, but as a daily practice of awareness and self-regulation. Clients learn how to stay grounded in the present moment, reducing impulsivity, easing anxiety, and avoiding the mental traps of regret and future worry that often lead to relapse.

Meditation is a foundational part of our program. It helps clients grow more comfortable being with themselves and supports emotional balance, patience, and clarity.

🧠 Therapy-Informed Education

Our curriculum is based on well-established clinical models, including:

  • The Stages of Change (Drs. Prochaska & DiClemente) to support self-paced, non-shaming progress

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to challenge unhelpful thought patterns and improve emotional insight

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to build distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal skills

Clients practice real-world tools to identify triggers, manage difficult emotions, and improve communication and empathy skills that support lasting change. As counseling progresses, we provide personalized reading and practice suggestions to support your continued healing and growth—long after formal treatment ends.

Getting Help

Finding the right support for recovery can feel overwhelming. With so many options available, it’s easy to feel unsure of where to begin. One common myth is that people must hit “rock bottom” before seeking help. In reality, the earlier you start treatment, the more effective and empowering the process can be.

At Eastside Center for Healing, we offer a mindfulness-based, holistic alternative to traditional addiction and mental health treatment. Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) goes beyond simply stopping an issue, we help you understand the emotional, relational, and behavioral patterns that fuel it.

We believe that recovery isn’t about labels or shame. It’s about curiosity, honesty, and reclaiming the ability to respond to life in healthier, more effective ways.

The Family Program

When one person in a family struggles with mental health or substance use problems, the impact ripples outward. Family members often find themselves over-functioning, covering, managing, or quietly breaking down while trying to hold everything together. Over time, these patterns can feel exhausting and unsustainable.

Our Family Program helps you reclaim your own identity and wellbeing, regardless of whether your loved one is ready to change. Through education, process-oriented group work, and optional couples or individual sessions, you’ll begin to shift your own behaviors in a way that is grounded, clear, and emotionally healthy.

Key elements of our family support include:

  • Understanding relational roles and emotional boundaries

  • Letting go of control-based coping patterns

  • Addressing guilt, fear, and resentment without shame

  • Building resilience through community and support

We also recommend self-help involvement with Al-Anon, Changes Family Support Network, Celebrate Recovery, NAMI, and similar organizations. You don’t need to wait for someone else to change in order to begin your own healing.

Relapse Prevention

Relapse prevention is not a one-time skill but a lifelong practice. In our IOP, clients build a foundation of emotional insight, practical tools, and inner stability to carry forward well beyond formal treatment.

Rather than relying on willpower alone, we focus on:

  • Identifying early warning signs of stress or disconnection

  • Strengthening emotional regulation and distress tolerance

  • Developing habits that reinforce self-awareness and accountability

  • Creating a supportive environment that aligns with long-term goals

Recovery is a process of becoming more responsive, not reactive. With practice, clients learn to navigate setbacks with self-compassion, clarity, and increased resilience.
