How We Work
At Eastside Center for Healing, therapy is not a formula or a one-size-fits-all process. Our work is trauma-informed, relational, and grounded in deep respect for your autonomy, values, culture, and lived experience. We believe meaningful change happens through collaboration, safety, and understanding not through pressure or pathologizing.
Rather than relying on a single method, we draw from evidence-based approaches that support nervous system regulation, insight, accountability, and lasting change. Care is always tailored to the individual, family, or professional system in front of us.
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-informed care recognizes that many emotional and behavioral patterns are adaptive responses to overwhelming experiences. We approach symptoms with curiosity rather than judgment and prioritize pacing, emotional safety, and choice.
This framework guides all of our work whether we are supporting individuals, couples, families, or professionals in high-responsibility roles. Our goal is not to erase the past, but to help reduce its impact on the present.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy used to process traumatic and distressing experiences that remain “stuck” in the nervous system. Rather than relying solely on talk therapy, EMDR helps the brain reprocess memories so they no longer carry the same emotional charge.
We use EMDR to support work with trauma, grief, anxiety, performance-related stress, and adverse life experiences. Treatment is always carefully paced and integrated within a broader therapeutic relationship.
Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (CBT & DBT-Informed)
Cognitive and behavioral approaches help clarify the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behavior. This work supports clients in identifying patterns that no longer serve them and developing more flexible, effective responses.
We draw from CBT and DBT-informed strategies to support emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and values-based decision-making without reducing complex human experiences to rigid techniques.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Therapy
Mindfulness-based therapy supports awareness of thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations as they arise in the present moment. This approach helps reduce reactivity, restore nervous system balance, and strengthen the capacity to respond rather than react.
Mindfulness in therapy is not about achieving calm or clearing the mind. It is about developing a steady, compassionate relationship with experience especially during stress, pain, or uncertainty.
Family Systems and Relational Therapy
We understand individuals within the context of their relationships. Family systems therapy explores how communication patterns, roles, and expectations shape emotional well-being across generations.
This approach supports individuals, couples, and families in improving connection, setting healthy boundaries, and responding more intentionally to one another particularly during times of transition, conflict, or crisis.
Art and Play Therapy
Some experiences are difficult to express in words alone, especially for children, adolescents, and trauma survivors. Art and play therapy provide developmentally appropriate, expressive pathways for processing emotion and building self-regulation.
We use tools such as art, sand tray, movement, storytelling, and symbolic play to help clients externalize internal experiences, develop emotional language, and explore meaning in a safe, non-verbal way. These approaches are always integrated within a thoughtful clinical framework.
Group Therapy for Population-Specific Groups
Group therapy offers a powerful relational context for healing and growth. In well-facilitated groups, clients often experience reduced isolation, increased insight, and meaningful connection with others who understand their lived experience.
We offer groups tailored to specific populations and clinical needs, including trauma-informed groups, recovery-oriented groups, and professional-specific groups. Groups are clinician-led, structured, and intentionally paced to support safety and depth.
Certified Sex Addiction Therapy (CSAT®)
We provide specialized treatment for individuals and couples affected by compulsive sexual behavior, intimacy disorders, and relational betrayal using the CSAT® model.
CSAT-informed therapy addresses:
- Compulsive sexual behavior cycles
- Underlying trauma and attachment dynamics
- Shame resilience and accountability
- Partner impact and relational repair
This work supports both individual recovery and, when appropriate, couple healing through structure, clarity, and ethical clinical care.
Addiction Treatment Guided by ASAM Criteria
Our substance use treatment is guided by the ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) Criteria, ensuring care that is clinically appropriate, individualized, and responsive to risk and need.
ASAM-informed care helps determine the appropriate level of treatment intensity and supports coordination with higher levels of care when necessary. This framework allows us to meet clients where they are while maintaining clear clinical structure and safety.
Substance Use and Recovery-Oriented Care
Our approach to substance use and addictive patterns is compassionate, non-shaming, and grounded in evidence-based practice. Guided by ASAM criteria and stages-of-change principles, we support individuals and families across the recovery spectrum from early concern to long-term recovery.
Treatment may include individual therapy, family involvement, group support, and coordination with medical or psychiatric providers as clinically indicated.
Aviation-Specific Care and the HIMS Framework
We provide specialized mental health and substance use treatment for aviation professionals, including pilots participating in or preparing for the HIMS program.
Our clinicians understand the clinical, regulatory, and professional realities of aviation careers. With appropriate consent, we collaborate thoughtfully with Aviation Medical Examiners (AMEs) and other aviation treatment professionals to support continuity of care.
Treatment is structured, ethical, and focused on supporting both recovery and professional responsibility.
First Responder–Specific Care
We provide specialized mental health and substance use treatment for first responders, including law enforcement, fire service, EMS, and emergency communications professionals.
Our clinicians understand the operational culture, cumulative trauma exposure, moral injury and performance demands inherent in public safety careers. Treatment acknowledges the realities of shift work, critical incident exposure, command structures, and concerns about confidentiality or career impact.
Care is structured, direct, and grounded in trauma-informed practice. Our focus is psychological resilience, recovery from cumulative stress and moral injury, and sustained professional functioning.
An Integrated, Collaborative Approach
No single approach fits every person or situation. Therapy at Eastside Center for Healing is integrative by design responsive to change, grounded in relationship, and shaped by collaboration.
We remain committed to ongoing training, clinical excellence, and thoughtful care so that you can feel supported, respected, and confident in the work we do together.
